The Only Military Dependents’ Village with Hot Spring and Medical Personnel

Beitou is famous for its hot springs. During Japanese colonial period, the Japanese improved public hygiene and introduced onsen culture to Beitou. Incorporating hot springs as a therapeutic element, they constructed the Beitou Branch of Taipei Army Garrison Hospital, which later became the Tri-Service General Hospital. Situated in the hot spring town, Heart Village also had hot spring water in its public bathhouses and was regarded as the only military dependents’ village with hot spring and medical personnel in Taiwan. Even though the villagers moved to the Kang-Zhuang Community in 2016, the hot spring pipelines in the public bathhouses remain to this day, allowing the unique memories of Heart Village to continue flowing.
