The Social Center and the Square Used to be Public Restrooms?
Due to limited living space, most Heart Village households did not have their own toilets and had to use the public restrooms. Since it was frightening to go out for the toilet at night, villagers would prepare portable toilets or chamber pots. Later, thanks to the efforts of adjutant, Ma Yao-Nian, each household gradually started to install septic tanks and toilets. With less and less people going to the public restrooms, the village chief dismantled them due to low usage and unpleasant odors. The place was transformed into a social center built with iron sheets. After the iron sheet corroded, it was removed and turned into a square.
