Traditionally, reliquaries were used to preserve the relics (bone or organic frag ments) of saints. These sacred objects were often crafted from semi-precious metals and lavishly adorned with gold and gemstones. In my installation, I reinterpret this tradition. Rather than following the historical, opulently decorated style, I have created a subtler, more contem porary form of reliquary. They are as sembled from recycled pressed and cut glass-specifically domestic glassware such as salt shakers, tumblers, bowls, and similar everyday objects that may evoke childhood memories for some. Unlike metal or other materials, glass is pure, reflective, and inherently ornamental-qualities that, in their own quiet way, suit the spirit and spiritual charge of a reliquary.
