The choice of material was intentional. Based on folk designation of Virgin Mary as Little Doll Mary, I was inspired by traditional small-scale statue-making devoted to
the Virgin Mary depiction. Rather than traditional stone or wood carving, I was drawn to the idea of working with fabric to sew a doll. The figure was created spe-cifically for an architectural detail of the village chapel—a niche in the bell tower in Podhradí near Jičín, where it will be placed after the exhibition concludes. I spent my entire childhood in this village and return often, so I hope that the Virgin Mary will serve as a symbol of protection and hope for both residents and visitors. My intention is to connect the region’s historical and cultural traditions with the present, while also bringing a sense of spiritual presence into everyday life.
