The Li and Guo styles of painting, epitomized by Li Cheng and Guo Xi of the Northern Song Dynasty, and the Dong Ju styles of painting, epitomized by Dong Yuan and Ju Ran, are two of the most important traditions in Chinese landscape painting. Zhen Ming studied and familiarized himself with the techniques of literati ink paintings of different dynasties, and this painting was made during his early years in Chiayi. The inscription of the painting, "Imitating Guo Heyang (Guo Xi)'s brushwork, "shows his influence from the Li and Guo styles, with the double pines, the peaks of the cloud-topped mountains, and the thatched pavilion with the grassy hut as its features, highlighting the historical origin of the Beijing-Tianjin style of paintings to which Zhen Ming belonged.
