Customs Narcotics Detector Dog

Key milestones of Taiwan’s Customs Narcotics Detector Dog Team: ● 2000: Executive Yuan approves Customs to establish the team, aiming to “intercept drugs at ports of entry”. Early training is outsourced. ● 2007: Taiwan-Australia MOU signed, introducing advanced breeding and training techniques. ● 2008: “Detector Dog Breeding and Training Center” opens in Houli, Taichung, marking the beginning of local breeding programs. ● 2012: Narcotics detector dog team deployment completed across all customs offices. ● 2018: Cross-agency cooperation starts with the Military Police Command for explosive detection dog training. ● 2022: Expanded cooperation agreement signed between the Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance, and Military Police Command for shared breeding and training resources. ●2024: First collaboration with the Animal & Plant Health Inspection Agency enables suitable dogs from the training program to be retrained as quarantine detector dogs, safeguarding the nation’s border biosecurity. ● 2025: Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance begins breeding partnership with Huikuang Guide Dog School Taiwan to optimize narcotics detector dog bloodlines. The Ministry of Agriculture oversees full insurance coverage and comprehensive veterinary care for all operational dogs.
