Fo Guang Shan Tsung-Lin University

The monastic education system of Fo Guang Shan underwent academic structure reform in 1989. Three new levels of education were established within the system to nurture teachers of the Dharma, researchers of Buddhist studies, promoters of Buddhist culture, education, charity and Dharma propagation, and youth curriculum. The Guang Shan Tsung-Lin University is divided into the International College and the Buddhist College, and has sixteen branches across the world to transcend the boundaries of nations, and gradually progress towards the ideal where the Dharma can reach any place that is inhabited by humans. In addition, the Tienyen Buddhist eCollege was established to promote distance learning via the Internet. In 2008, Venerable Master remained at the frontline of reform and combined modern mindsets with traditional monastery life. The curriculum was divided into Dharma Propagation and Administration, Temple Management, and Applied Buddhism in hopes that these three courses will train students in accordance with their aptitude, and nurture professionals in Buddhism, to ensure that the Dharma will abide in this world eternally, and that youths will enjoy a happy learning environment.
