The Monastic Education System

Development of the monastic community sets the foundation for Dharma propagation in Buddhism. In order to nurture future teachers of the Dharma, so that they can shoulder the responsibilities of propagating Buddhism, to ensure that the Dharma abides eternally, and to promote Humanistic Buddhism, Venerable Master Hsing Yun established Shou Shan Buddhist College in 1965, which marked the beginning of Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Colleges. In 1967, Venerable Master founded Fo Guang Shan Monastery, and thereby relocated the Shou Shan Buddhist College campus back to Fo Guang Shan, and renamed it "Eastern Buddhist College. "Up until today, education institutes under the Fo Guang Shan Monastic Education System include the Monastic Education Research Committee, Chinese Institute for Buddhist Studies, and Fo Guang Shan Tsung-Lin University.
