Elementary and Secondary Education

Elementary and Secondary Education Venerable Master once said, "Buddha's Light members must promote Buddhist education from kindergarten all the way to elementary, secondary and higher education levels; from individual families to society; and from monastic living inside temples to the daily lives of the general public." At Fo Guang Shan, elementary and secondary school teachers offer complete and open educational approaches to suit society, so that students will be prepared to engage with the world and see their future. Pu-Men Senior High School Originally Zhen Qi Senior High School situated in Gangshan, Kaohsiung, the school was handed over in 1977 and re-established as Pu-Men Senior High School within the vicinity of Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Dashu, Kaohsiung with Ven Tzi Hui as the founding Principal. In 2009, the school campus was relocated to Dakeng, Kaohsiung. Pu-Men was established during the time when Venerable Master Hsing Yun had already begun achieving great results in his Buddhist endeavors. Exhibiting his generous and compassionate spirit in offering universal care, he offered the peaceful and quiet environment of Fo Guang Shan to establish a high school so as to nurture talents and contribute to society. "Pu-Men" means "Universal Gate" that delivers all sentient beings, thus the high school is an integration of the spirits of education, compassion, equality, loving-kindness and selflessness as demonstrated by Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva who has vowed to liberate all beings in the world from suffering.
