Higher Education
Venerable Master Hsing Yun once said, "Reserving wisdom for the
world, while providing a university for society. " From as early as
1963, Fo Guang Shan has been establishing Buddhist Colleges, and
has been dedicating efforts to monastic education across the four
decades that followed. In order to further realize the ideals of fostering talents in education, and to bring Buddhist endeavors to a higher level, all experiences in education became the foundation of establishing quality and complete universities in humanities on an international scale. In 1991, Hsi Lai University (now University of the West) was established in California, US; in 1996, Nanhua University was established in Chiayi, Taiwan; in 2000, Fo Guang University was
established in Yilan, Taiwan; and in 2010, Nan Tien Institute was established in Wollongong, Australia. In 2014, Guang Ming College was established in Philippines.
