The figure in this painting is Ms. Hsieh Shu Chin, the mother of Ms. Jenny Jou Ko who is one of the interviewees in the early stage of the exhibition's research. According to Ms. Ko's memories, her mother had a star-like presence and maintained a graceful appearance throughout her life. Her father was passionate about hosting art guests at home, with SHIY De Jinn being one of the notable visitors, and thus he left behind this work for her mother.
Ms. Hsieh Shu Chin grew up in a family that favored sons over daughters, and her educational environment was limited. However, she did not bow to fate. She entered the prestigious Lanyang Girls' High School, one of the few schools in Taiwan under the Japanese education system that Taiwanese students could attend. Later, she taught herself English and secured an administrative job at the Ching Chuan Kang Airport. During her work, she met a government official, married and moved to Taipei. After marriage, she faced numerous challenges, including difficulties with her mother-in-law, her husband's business failure, and his early death. Despite the hardships, she worked multiple jobs and single-handedly raised her three children to adulthood. Through her actions, she became a role model and advised her daughter: regardless of the state of marital life, a woman must possess the ability to achieve financial independence.
