中央研究院1954年在南港現址重建院區後至今，經歷全面性的轉變。「南港院區」從初期幾棟簡易的辦公室轉變成擁有約38公頃土地、涵蓋人文社會科學、數理科學、生命科學等三大學組的大型研究所/中心。
「國家生技研究園區」於2018年開幕啟用，提供多個產官學研單位共同進駐，期望成為國際級生醫創新研發的樞紐。
位於臺南歸仁高鐵特定區的「南部院區」，自2024年起延續北部院區既有研究資源與能量，結合在地人才與南部特有之環境、產業及文化等資源，優先推動農業生技、量子科技、淨零永續、人文社會科學等領域的研究。
目前南港院區與南部院區正分別進行院區空間的整體規劃及量子實驗大樓的興建，國家生技研究園區聯外道路亦將於2026年完工通車，預計通車後將大幅改變國家生技研究園區與南港院區的進出交通動線及四分溪水岸的地景地貌。值此之際，透過發展現況的整理與院區整體空間環境的提升，未來中央研究院將以更貼近人與生活、連結度更高的學術研究基地，迎向未來挑戰，向前而行。
Since reestablishing its campus at the current Nangang location in 1954, Academia Sinica has undergone a comprehensive transformation. The Nangang Campus has evolved from a few simple office buildings into a large research institution covering approximately 38 hectares and encompassing multiple research institutes across the Division of Life Sciences, the Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, and the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The National Biotechnology Research Park, which opened in 2018, serves as a shared hub for multiple industry, government, academia, and research institutions, aspiring to become an international-level biomedical innovation and research hub.
The South Campus, located in the Tainan-Guiren High Speed Rail Special District since 2024, extends the existing research resources and capabilities of the northern campus, combining local talent with the unique environmental, industrial, and cultural resources of southern Taiwan, prioritizing research in agricultural biotechnology, quantum technology, net-zero sustainability, and humanities and social sciences.
Currently, both the Nangang Campus and South Campus are undergoing comprehensive spatial planning and construction of quantum experimental buildings. The National Biotechnology Research Park's external access road is scheduled for completion and opening in 2026. After opening, this is expected to significantly transform traffic flow to and from the National Biotechnology Research Park and Nangang Campus, as well as the landscape along the Sifen River. At this juncture, through reorganization of current developments and enhancement of overall campus spatial environments, Academia Sinica will move forward to meet future challenges as an academic research base that is more integrated with daily life and better connected to the wider community.
