Oriental Legend

Video Game Posters: Revisiting the Glorious 1990s Starting in 1993, Chen Hung-Yao was commissioned to create video game posters. His works highlighted Taiwan’s efforts in the video game industry during the 1990s. Games like Xuan-Yuan Sword 2 and Xuan-Yuan Sword: Dance of the Maple Leaves left lasting impressions on players, even those born after their release, marking significant milestones. Demon’s Course captured the youth of a generation, while The Holy War of Xuan-Yuan showcased a distinctive composition style. Oriental Legend features Wukong depicted boldly, with the artist expressing great enthusiasm. Initially thought to be a foreign product, Heaven’s Dawn was later found to be independently developed by a local studio and sold internationally. Thanks to the video game industry, Chen was able to continue his work after he could no longer draw comics, and through his posters, he documented this glorious era.
