Time Trick: Finding the Best Language of Expression for Stories
In 2011, Chen Hung-Yao gathered and illustrated his sci-fi stories he had kept for years, self-publishing the short comic collection titled Time Trick. It features five unique stories, each with its own style. Chen explained: “Each story has its own language that best suits it, similar to how people have different personalities. When you discover a story’s character, it develops its own language. This applies to both long and short stories.”
Since 2000, this series has repeatedly been shown to the industry but was consistently rejected due to Taiwan’s lack of a market for sci-fi comics. At Beyond Limits – The Art of Chen Hung-Yao in 2025, the younger generation’s favorite was Time Trick, which they referred to as “our Black Mirror.”
