This exhibition draws inspiration from iconic Taiwanese cultural imagery—including glove puppetry, the world’s first bamboo landmark, and the global landmark Taipei 101. Taking cues from the bamboo-inspired architecture of Taipei 101 and the symbolic meanings of bamboo—“rising step by step,” “unyielding resilience,” and “noble integrity”—the exhibition concept was developed to gather Taiwan’s cultural and tourism highlights at the summit while embodying the spirit of “transcending oneself.” The exhibition space is designed as two intertwined zones where puppet theater and bamboo forests meet.

The exhibition is organized into four thematic sections: Healing Journey, Bamboo Structures Realm, Taiwan’s Sustainable Green Landmark, and The Light of Puppetry.

Upon entering the exhibition, visitors first pass through a bamboo forest installation interwoven with light and shadow, as if stepping into a high-mountain green landscape. Through the integration of lighting, music, and forest-inspired fragrance, the space evokes the tranquil and profound atmosphere of the mountain forests of Caoling and Shibi in Yunlin, guiding visitors into a sensory experience of nature.

Visitors then proceed into the puppet exhibition zone, where they can closely admire classic puppet characters from renowned troupes such as Pili, Jin Guang, Xin Xing Ge, Long Xing Ge, Sheng Ping Wu Zhou Yuan, and Mu Yi Tang. The display traces the evolution of Taiwanese glove puppetry—from the early Jin Guang Opera figure Hero Baicao Weng, to the long-lived temple-touring hero Five-Clawed Golden Eagle, and later the television glove-puppetry icons Shi Yanwen and Su Huan-Jen, as well as finely crafted puppets representing classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms characters. Through multimedia visuals, lighting effects, and audio guidance, audiences can experience how this traditional art form is revitalized within a contemporary exhibition space.

This collaboration with Taipei 101 symbolizes the presentation of the “World Bamboo Landmark × Glove Puppetry Culture” as “Two Peaks.” One represents the natural height born from the mountains and forests; the other represents the cultural height built by the city. Located at an altitude of 509 meters, the exhibition also signifies Yunlin culture standing on the international stage, opening a dialogue with the world.

《Beyond the Puppet, Beyond the Summit》

Su Huan-Jen is one of the most representative characters in Pili Puppet Theater. Skilled in both literature and martial arts, he is remarkably wise and renowned for his benevolence and chivalrous deeds. Symbolizing intelligence and justice, he stands as one of the spiritual icons of glove puppet culture.
