Coffins for phones were created as a response to many dinners spent with friends and their phones. What would a shared meal feel like if our phones were symbolically “laid to rest” for a while? During dinner, each guest places their phone into a small coffin-shaped container. It is not a gesture of rejection, but rather a playful ritual—an invitation to temporarily let go of the digital world and return to the present moment.
The coffin shape adds a layer of humor and symbolism. For the duration of the meal, the phones are “sleeping,” allowing conversation, eye contact, and the rhythm of shared eating to come back to life. The object becomes a small ceremony at the table, reminding us that meaningful connection happens between people, not through screens.
The Phone Coffins therefore serve as both a functional object and a gentle commentary on contemporary social habits. They create a space where technology can rest—so that human interaction can awaken again.
