In order to pay back the community, the donations to Fo Guang Shan were used to establish the Fo Guang Shan Foundation for Cultured and Education, Fo Guang Shan Compassion and Social Welfare Foundation, Humanistic Culture and Education Foundation, Fo Guang Shan Television Dharma Propagation Foundation, Pure Land Cultural and Educational Foundation. Master Hsing Yun does not have much personal use of money, the incomes from his high annual royalties was thus used to found the Venerable Master Hsing Yun Public Education Trust Fund in 2008. The trust fund awards organizations and individuals for their contributions to culture and education, and awards scholarships to low-income students. In order to foster the idea of the “Three Acts of Goodness” within schools, the “Three Acts of Goodness School Award” was also launched. Furthermore, the Fo Guang Shan Cloud and Water Mobile Library was officially launched in 2007 with volunteer drivers, story-tellers, and reading guides to promote a cultural and scholarly community. Reaching all corners of society, the mobile libraries bring the “fragrance of books” to communities, schools, hospitals, parks, and public spaces. In 2012, Fo Guang Shan launched 50 more mobile library trucks, which stopped at more than 700 destinations around Taiwan.
Even until today, my philosophy has remained as followed: If there are those who need the causes and conditions of a university to be delivered, then I shall build a university to deliver them. If there are those who need the causes and conditions of Buddha's Light International Association to be delivered, then I shall establish the Buddha's Light International Association to deliver them. If there are those who need the causes and conditions of monastery dwellings to be delivered, then I shall build monastery dwellings to deliver them. If there are those who need the causes and conditions of a Buddhist College to be delivered, then I shall build a Buddhist College to deliver them. If there are those who need the causes and conditions of an art gallery to be delivered, then I shall build an art gallery to deliver them. If there are those who need the causes and conditions of a youth group to deliver them, then I shall establish a youth group to deliver them. If there are those who need the causes and conditions of a student association to be delivered, then I shall establish a student association to deliver them.
