Between the concave and convex

Hsieh, Chia-Chen

[Council for Cultural Affairs Minister Award – the 10th Taiwan Craft Design Competition in 2002] Material: Bamboo, wood Size: 32x32x138cm By repeatedly layering bamboo strips, a sense of rhythm was generated in the work. The sides of the strips are intentionally exposed, and what is distinct is the bending technique, which was employed to arrange bamboo strips in flexible layers to render wave-like patterns and a hair-like texture. The novel way of shifts in light and color very much symbolizes a creative dialogue between traditional materials and modern life, offering a refreshingly new perspective.
