Located in the mountain town of Puli, Goang Xing Paper Mill has committed over twenty years to the preservation of traditional handmade paper craftmanship, turning it from a simple writing or packaging material to a link between culture and everyday life. This project integrates the promotion of craftmanship with eco-friendly tourism, highlighting the cultural and everyday use of handmade paper. To comply with the international “Green Travel Seal”, Goang Xing Paper Mill undertook facility enhancements and system assessments to ensure its sustainable practices align with global standards. Additionally, the mill introduced the “Puli Town Craft Tour”, which collaborated with local partners such as MuhSheng Museum of Entomology, Long Nan Lacquer Museum, REST Book and Bed. These one or two-day tours let visitors explore Puli’s culture and industry while promoting sustainable travel and authentic local experiences. Cross-border cooperation is another highlight of the project, partnering with Dandan studio, the mill created a series of lifestyle items: stylish bags, hats, and book covers, all crafted from the Kakishibu Paper. These unique materials combine functionality with sustainability and have been showcased at international exhibitions and online platforms, broadening the horizons for handmade paper design. Through this project, Goang Xing Paper Mill encourages people to explore the beauty of Puli’s natural and cultural scenery. The narrative of papermaking has evolved beyond its traditional craft, reaching into education, design and travel. Together, human ingenuity merges with nature, revitalizing the sustainable future of handcrafted paper.
