(Ideas are to objects as constellations are to stars.) Every star finds its own celestial path. The vast constellation was not crafted in a single day, yet all things are born through the relentless hands of young artisans. From the unwavering focus of each passing day, they carve out a path uniquely their own, a journey of mastery illuminated by dedication. Taiwan's young artisans are forging their unique paths through the art of creation. Living in the modern era, they face a dual challenge: responding to the demands of contemporary society while embarking on a personal journey of self-discovery. This exhibition delves into how these artisans shape lasting legacies, tracing their own constellations in the ever-expanding universe of craftsmanship. Viewed through the timeline of young artisans' journeys, this exhibition focuses on the pivotal phase of career development, characterized by a stable creative process and a clearer understanding of socio-economic dynamics. It aims to present a more concentrated and nuanced group portrait of young artisans. Through six thematic sections—'Crafting Everyday Objects,' 'Starting with the Market,' 'Self-Made Glory,' 'Mastery Across Boundaries,' 'Illuminating Stars,' and 'The Birth of a Blue Ocean Star Map'—the exhibition delves into how young artisans respond to local landscapes and emotional connections through their craft, establish diverse and multi-dimensional economic models, innovate by integrating new technologies and materials into traditional practices, project and reflect on their self-identity, refine their skills across disciplines and regions, and, at the peak of their creative energy, channel their efforts into addressing pressing social issues. The exhibition starts by showing how young artisans draw inspiration from their everyday surroundings, gradually expanding their creative vision outward. Each artisan who chooses craftsmanship as a career reflects different aspects that connect to the six main themes of the exhibition. By combining curatorial themes with personal stories shared by the artisans and showcasing their representative works, the exhibition creates a link between the objects and the thoughts behind them. It follows the unique journeys of these contemporary artisans as they explore and grow in their craft. The philosopher Walter Benjamin once said, 'Ideas are to objects as constellations are to stars.' This exhibition explores how young Taiwanese artisans form new connections in their craft, shining a light on their journeys of self-realization. This exhibition also responds to the " Living Craft, Crafting Life " initiative launched in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, centering on the theme of "Craft 70+1" to promote the concept of "SLOHAS Craftsmanship." By combining the ideas of Slow and Lohas (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability), the initiative emphasizes core values of Health, Aesthetics, and Sustainability, rooted in the principles of being Slow, Smart, and Simple. Through this exhibition, which spotlights contemporary Taiwanese artisan youth, we witness the expansive star map of creation they present, radiating outward in a ripple effect that defines the spirit of contemporary Taiwanese craftsmanship.
