Venerable Master has very fond memories of his mother. Although he was raised in poverty and never had a stock of food that lasted more than three days in the house, his mother remained positive and never showed a sign of worry despite the ongoing wars and poverty that separated them many times. She always remained calm and composed in times of chaos, and faced danger fearlessly. No matter how many times her clothes were patched up, she never cared and cherished everything with contentment. Living a poor life with integrity was her of life.
His Childhood
His Learning Experiences
Poverty meant that Venerable Master never had a chance to go to school, but his maternity grandmother, though illiterate herself, insisted on sending him to a private tutoring place. It cost four bronze coins for him to go there. Although he could have bought two hotcakes with the money, he still saved it for his learning. On his first day there, he learned to recognize the Chinese character 'ren' (human). This character has since exerted tremendous influence on Venerable Master. Being a good human became the most important motto of his life.
A Diligent and Patient Boy
Venerable Master has shown an enduring and patient characteristic since young. Living in a poor family that was barely able to put food on the table, he and his three siblings more or less lived half of their childhood in hunger. Yet adversity had enabled him to nurture his patience, so that even if there was nothing to eat, he would not be bothered by it.
