Mountain Gratitude for His Master

A Promise That Has Been Kept The war between China and Japan broke out when I was twelve. My father left home to do business and we never heard from him again. After trying to contact him for two years without success, mother took me to Najing in search of my father. By chance, I came across the host-monastic at Chi-hsia Shan Monastery, who asked if I wanted to become a Buddhist monk. I blurted out the word immediately, ""Yes."" In less than half an hour, the Abbot of Chi-hisa Shan, Ven. Master Zhi Kal sent for me, 'I heard that you wanted to become a Buddhist monk, how about becoming tonsured under me? I will be your master. ""Ok."" Once again, I answered immediately A promise made within a moment's time had been kept by me for a lifetime. ~ Hsing Yun's Hundred Saying Series
