The Propagation of Dharma Falls on the Shoulders of Monastics
When Venerable Master presided over the Yilan Buddhist Chanting Association, the devotees were very keen on learning the Dharma. Other than strengthening their faith by chanting the Buddha's name, Venerable Master also tried to build their confidence and righteous understanding by teaching them how to read Buddhist sutras, and encouraged them to participate in various Dharma propagation activities. In 1954, Venerable Master advocated the practice of dedicating their food and drinks to the Triple Gem before eating them, and encouraged Buddhist youth to wear卍-shaped pendants as accessories. In terms of collective spiritual practices, other than the symbolic large-scale Amitabha Chanting Services, Venerable Master also promoted the Dharma Service of Gratitude on the 1st and 15th days of the lunar month as a way to dedicate the merits from chanting sutras to one's parents from the past 7 lifetimes. Regular blessing services and light offering services were also the core practices for devotees of Lei Ying Temple.
