In order to foster the talents who will propagate the teachings of Buddhism; ensure that the light of the Dharma shines contiquously; and propagate Humanistic Buddhism, Venerable Master-Hsing Yun established Shou Shan Buddhist College in 1965. This marked the beginning of the history of Fo Guang Shan's Buddhist Colleges. In 1969,Shou Shan Buddhist College was moved to Fo Guang Shan Monastery (founded in 1967), and renamed Eastern Budchist College. Currently, Fo Guang Shan's system of monastic education consists of the Education Research Cormmittee, Chinese Budchism Research Institute, and Fo Guang Shan Tsung Lin University.
