His Life

His Life Fo Guang Shan originates from the Linji Chan School, where Venerable Master Hsing Yun is its 48th patriarch. In 1949, Venerable Master crossed the ocean to Taiwan and began propagating the Dharma at Lei Yin Temple in Yilan, enabling Buddhism to develop on a whole new level. In 1967, he founded Fo Guang Shan Monastery and has since advocated Humanistic Buddhism in an innovative approach free from the bounds of any particular sect or school. This shifted Buddhism from forests to cities, from temples to society, and from individual liberation to community care. Transcending the boundaries of nations, Venerable Master travels the world to continue this thousand-year-old lineage, and to expound and propagate Buddha's intentions to instruct, teach, benefit, and bring joy to all.
