Mountains Above, Rivers Below

Huang Shu-Ping

[Second Prize –the 2021 Taiwan Craft Competition] Material: 999 pure silver, 820 silver-copper alloy The artist has preserved the patina of naturally sulfurized silver, where the surface widely takes on a brown or bluish-black metallic oxide hue instead of bright, shiny silver, demonstrating that understated treatment deepens the rustic, ancient concept in the work. One cup, two teapots and three tea bowls are finely arranged, suggesting the laid-out tranquility found in a mountain, a stream, and a single leaf. That resembles the tea-drinking ritual of men of letters, further enhancing the comfortable and elegant aroma of the tea.
