池上大坡池布袋蓮永續工藝教育計畫 Water Hyacinth Craft from Dapo Pond Project

池上大坡池的布袋蓮氾濫，長期以來成為影響其生態平衡的一大難題。這種生命力強悍的水生植物一旦過度蔓延，將阻礙其它水生植物進行光合作用，導致水體含氧量驟降，嚴重威脅在地動植物的生存。儘管池上居民和社區持續以傳統竹筏或機具投入維護，但環境治理始終是一場耗費心力的長期挑戰。
The overgrown water hyacinth in Dapo Pond has affected the local ecosystem for a long time. When this fast-growing plant spreads too much, it blocks sunlight and stops other plants from photosynthesizing. This lowers the oxygen in the water and puts local plants and animals at risk. To protect the pond, Chihshang residents have been working together to clear this plant with traditional bamboo rafts and tools, though it remains a long and challenging process of environmental care.
此次「池上大坡池布袋蓮永續工藝教育計畫」，由池上鄉公所攜手藝術家林彥伶策劃，設計出環境教育與工藝轉化並行的方案。打撈上岸的布袋蓮經過清洗與曬乾，成為編織材料，再透過工作坊將布袋蓮轉化為工藝創作品，參與者在裁剪、編織與裝飾過程中亦能理解布袋蓮的生態背景。累積的教材與作品進一步製成教學影片，讓更多人透過遠距或線上方式認識大坡池的環境與生態價值。
The Water Hyacinth Craft from Dapo Pond Project is led by Chihshang Township in collaboration with the artist Yen-Ling Lin. They have designed a program that combines environmental education with craft-making. The removed water hyacinth is cleaned, sun-dried, and transformed into weaving materials. During the workshops, participants turn the water hyacinth into crafts while learning about the local ecology through the process of cutting, weaving, and decorating. The teaching materials and finished artworks will also be made into videos, allowing more people to learn about the environment and the ecological value of Dapo Pond online.
布袋蓮永續工藝教育計畫除了能減輕環境負擔，更能延伸為社區陪伴的工藝行動。未來將持續尋求專業設計師合作，提升布袋蓮工藝品的精緻度，進而開發成為具有池上地方特色的伴手禮。
This project not only helps reduce the environmental impact but also fosters community engagement through craft. In the future, the team will continue collaborating with professional designers to refine the water hyacinth crafts and develop them into souvenirs that reflect the unique character of Chihshang.
從面對環境問題的積極回應，到發掘原料的創意潛能，再到編織出獨特的在地文化與產業鏈，池上的大坡池正透過工藝，正逐步編織出一個屬於社區的永續故事。
From handling environmental problems to using local materials creatively, and from making unique crafts to supporting local culture and industry, Dapo Pond is creating a story of sustainability for the community.
