There are islands after the flood. (6th Edition)

Ali Istanda

Dimensions: L434 × W88 cm Materials: woodblock print, acrylic sheet, paper pulp Drawing on Bunun mythology, the work reflects on the relationships between people, islands, the ocean, and ways of living together. After the great flood, different islands emerged as people moved in different directions—some stayed, while others followed the currents. Though their journeys differed, each built a new way of life. The work transforms the plants and animals from the story into islands, imagining the flood and the outward migration of Austronesian peoples as part of the same narrative. Faced with similar challenges, different communities developed new ways of living according to their own characteristics. Through a lighthearted perspective, the work reflects on Indigenous culture and reminds us that mutual respect has always been a wisdom passed down by the mountains and forests.
