The Venerable Master promoted monthly sutra printing since 1958. He founded a Monthly Buddhist Texts Society in 1964 to modernize profound Buddhist sutras by adding punctuations and paragraphing to help readers better understand the meaning of sutras. In 1977, Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Canon Committee was founded. Its mission was to reorganize different versions of sutras throughout history, collate texts, conduct analysis, re-punctuate, paragraph, and interpret terminologies. The end result of these efforts was the compilation of 16 sets of Fo Guang Buddhist Canon.
After more than 40 years, 9 sets of collections including the Agama Canon and Prajnaparamita Canon have been published in 2021, totaling more than 300 volumes. This task and effort continued on while text undergoes digitization.
