Foundation Laying of Fo Guang Shan.
As of May 16, the project was named “Fo Guang Shan”, meaning the place where “Buddha’s Light Shines Universally”— the start of a new page for Humanistic Buddhism.
June, 1967
Foundation Laying of Eastern Buddhist College.
December, 1968
Inauguration of Eastern Buddhist College.
Eastern Buddhist College was the first building of Fo Guang Shan.
Foundation Laying of Ten-thousand Buddhas’ Great Compassion Shrine. It was the first shrine in Fo Guang Shan.
January, 1969
Eastern Buddhist College was formally relocated to Fo Guang Shan.
February, 1969
Eastern Buddhist College held its First and Second Class Joint Graduation Ceremony.
March, 1969
Fo Guang Shan sent its first batch of students to study abroad in Japan.
Venerable Master sent Tzu-Hui, Tzu-Chia, Tzu-Yi to study in Japan, who became the first group of students from Fo Guang Shan to study abroad.
April, 1969
Eastern Buddhist College introduced the Buddhist Lecture Series.
July, 1969
Fo Guang Shan organized the first College Buddhist Youth Summer Camp.
Fo Guang Shan started the trend of hosting college Buddhist youth summer camps.
1971
Completion of Fo Guang Shan’s Great Compassion Shrine.
Fo Guang Shan’s Great Compassion Shrine was completed and the Inauguration Ceremony was presided by the Venerable Master.
