The Power of Words in Dharma Propagation
Venerable Master has great passion for literature, and he once described his daily life as “keeping his head buried in writing during day and night.” After arriving in Taiwan, he used his writings to propagate the Dharma, because he knows very well that literature has an influence on social thoughts, and is an inspiration to the human minds. Thus, he continues to write consistently throughout his life as a way to revitalize and glorify Buddhism.
In my mind, Buddhist texts are just like literature, because those who composed
Buddhist texts or translated the Buddhist sutras in the ancient times must have
had high attainments in literature. They were the reason that Buddhist texts
were widely disseminated throughout time. We repeat and use these phrases
like gems, each embodying the deepest sentiments and profoundest meanings, elegant yet powerful, even with a poetic sense. If it weren't for such rare but beautiful words, how could the texts have spread this far?
