Glass Circle

Guo, Jia-Xin, Chen, Wei, Lung, Ting-Chun

- Who can speak up for sustainable cycles? With the promotion of the United Nations' SDGs concept, the idea of sustainable cycles has become increasingly popular among people. From governments to civil society groups, brands, and individuals, everyone is committed to promoting a sustainable lifestyle. Slogans and practical actions promoting sustainability can be seen in daily life. For years, humans have been developing many sustainable products, from product development and mass production to manufacturing processes and packaging in the hope of reducing waste and consumption of Earth's resources. Circular materials can also speak up for sustainability! In collaboration with Chun Chi Glass, we spent most of our time looking for "how to convey sustainable value to the public". We thought that in addition to promoting the concept of sustainability among humans, we could also start from "materials" and use the characteristics of glass itself for design and creation! Let glass speak up for sustainability itself! "Glass Circle" is an experiential device designed to allow more people to experience the "voice" of recycled glass for sustainable cycles. We experimented with four different glass sound devices using glass as the experimental material to explore the feasibility of producing sound when glass touches each other. These devices include glass sliding sounds, percussion scale soundboards, glass droplet plates, and rolling see-saws. Through glass resonance or characteristic principles, viewers can produce a crystal-clear "glass sound" through touch and friction. Through the recycling and regeneration mechanism of glass, glass can continue its life and be regenerated. Let glass speak up for itself and convey the timeless value of sustainable cycles!
