您覺得使用花蓮在地石材創作最大的優勢與挑戰是什麼？
What do you see as the greatest advantages and challenges of creating with locally sourced stone from Hualien?
最大的優勢，是能真正實踐「在地開採、在地設計、在地製造」。石材從花蓮礦區開採後，不需經過長距離跨國運輸即可完成加工與製作，不僅降低運輸過程中的碳排放，也支持在地石材產業與工藝技術的延續，提供地方就業機會，讓花蓮的天然資源與職人價值能夠持續被看見。同時，每一塊蛇紋石都擁有天然形成、無法複製的紋理與色澤，因此每件作品都是獨一無二的，也讓作品保有自然的生命力。最大的挑戰則是天然石材不像人造材料可以完全一致，每一塊石頭的紋理、硬度、色澤甚至結晶狀態都略有不同，因此從選料、切割到研磨拋光，都需要依據石材特性調整加工方式。對我們而言，設計並不是改變材料，而是理解材料、尊重材料，讓每一塊石頭都能展現最適合它的樣貌。
The greatest advantage is being able to practice “local extraction, local design, and local manufacturing.” Processing the stone locally reduces transportation-related carbon emissions while supporting Hualien’s stone industry and craftsmanship. Each piece of serpentine stone also has unique, naturally formed patterns and colors, making every work one of a kind. The greatest challenge is that natural stone varies in pattern, hardness, color, and crystal structure, requiring adjustments throughout the entire process. For us, design is not about changing the material, but about understanding and respecting it, allowing each piece of stone to reveal its own unique character.
您希望觀眾透過作品認識什麼樣的花蓮？
What kind of Hualien do you hope audiences will discover through your works?
我們希望觀眾看見的不只是風景優美的花蓮，而是一個孕育珍貴天然石材、擁有深厚石材產業文化的地方。蛇紋石經過數百萬年的地質變化形成，承載著花蓮土地的時間與記憶。我們希望透過作品，讓大家感受到花蓮不只是旅遊目的地，更是一片孕育材料、工藝與設計靈感的土地。
We hope audiences will see more than Hualien as a place of beautiful scenery, but also as a place that nurtures precious natural stone and has a rich culture and history rooted in the stone industry. Serpentine stone was formed through millions of years of geological change, carrying the passage of time and the memories of Hualien’s land. Through our works, we hope people will experience Hualien not only as a travel destination, but also as a land that nurtures materials, craftsmanship, and design inspiration.
在創作或製作過程中，最考驗工藝師經驗的是哪個環節？
Which part of the creative or production process requires the most craftsmanship and experience?
天然蛇紋石的紋理與結晶分布都不同，因此從選料開始就是最重要的環節。工藝師必須根據每塊石材的特性判斷最適合的切割方向，才能完整呈現天然紋理，也降低加工過程中破裂的風險。後續的研磨與拋光同樣仰賴經驗，不同石材需要不同的加工方式，才能呈現最自然且溫潤的質感。
Because the patterns and crystal distribution of natural serpentine stone vary from piece to piece, material selection is the most important stage from the very beginning. Artisans must determine the most suitable cutting direction based on the characteristics of each piece of stone in order to fully reveal its natural patterns while reducing the risk of cracking during processing. The subsequent grinding and polishing processes also rely heavily on experience, as different stones require different processing methods to achieve the most natural and warm tactile quality.
在設計與製作過程中，蛇紋石有哪些獨特的材料特性，會影響您的創作方式？
What unique material characteristics of serpentine stone influence your approach to design and production?
蛇紋石最大的特色，在於天然紋理、色澤與結晶變化豐富，每一塊都無法被複製。此外，它具有細微的天然毛細孔，能吸收精油，因此也非常適合發展成擴香產品。我們的設計不會刻意掩蓋材料本身，而是盡量保留天然紋理與色彩，讓每件作品都展現蛇紋石最真實的樣貌，也讓使用者感受到自然材料獨有的溫度。
The greatest characteristic of serpentine stone lies in its rich variations in natural patterns, colors, and crystal formations, making every piece impossible to replicate. It also contains fine natural pores that can absorb essential oils, making it particularly suitable for developing into aroma diffuser products. Our designs do not intentionally conceal the material itself, but instead preserve its natural patterns and colors as much as possible, allowing each work to reveal the most authentic qualities of serpentine stone and enabling users to experience the unique warmth of a natural material.

If someone is encountering serpentine stone for the first time, which piece would you recommend they start with?
我們最推薦從橢圓淺盤開始認識蛇紋石。我們相信，好的設計不需要掩蓋材料，而是讓材料成為主角。橢圓淺盤以最純粹的形式保留蛇紋石天然的紋理、色澤與溫潤光澤，讓人能直接感受每一塊石材獨一無二的生命力。它是一件可以真正融入日常生活的器物，也是一個重新認識臺灣在地石材的開始。希望透過每天的使用，讓更多人發現，來自花蓮的蛇紋石不只是建材，更是一種值得被珍惜的生活美學。
