During the days when resources were scarce, it was very difficult to have
a place to shelter Sanghas and manage a school to nurture them. When
the Venerable Master announced that he will found a Buddhist college
at Shou Shan Temple, some devotees warned him, "Master, if you start a
Buddhist college, there won't be enough food to eat!" However, the Venerable Master did not give up. He believed that Buddhism would have a future only when there is new blood to carry on.
In order to fund raise for the school, the Venerable Master voluntarily
went to morgues to chant for the deceased, sometimes even overnight.
His original intentions for a sangha education is evident in the established missions, course arrangements and faculty selections of the Buddhist College.
