Buddha’s Birthday Float Parade to Welcome Buddha Lunar April 8th
Buddha's Birthday is the birthday of Sakyamuni Buddha. Believing that the celebration activities are the most direct and visible promotion for Buddhism, Venerable Master Hsing Yun invited all temples in Kaohsiung to their floats. On the day of Buddha's Birthday, floats paraded across Kaohsiung City, delivering the blessings of Buddha. Following the success of the event, in 1964, Shou Shan Temple alone created more than 10 floats! In addition, with more temples participating that year, there were a total of more than 200 floats in the parade. On the street in front of Shou Shan Temple, long strings of firecrackers hung from the top of the buliding, crackling like thunder while smoke filled the air.
