Initiation

Initiation I was thinking, since I enjoy writing, I should take a step forward and learn to edit. Therefore, I resolved to publish a magazine of my own, named “My Corner”, every month. The content is like a generic magazine and includes sections such as a preface, editorial and new poems, as well as epilogue and novels. Even if I was busy, I would still write and publish this magazine periodically. In fact, I was the only reader of the magazine. ~Venerable Master Hsing Yun “Buddhist Affinities Across 100 Years”, 2013 Venerable Master Hsing Yun Arduously Learning to Write Because of Venerable Master Zhikai During the time of war, poverty was common and was a deficient factor towards a good learning environment for Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Thus, the number of words he knew was limited. When he first entered the monastic order, his Moster's words, "I will write it for you" sparked a moment of shamefulness in him. He channeled the dispirited into a motivation for learning and was determined to learn to write arduously. Reading and Writing at Jiaoshan Buddhist College During the period when Venerable Master Hsing Yun was receiving his monastic education In Jiaoshan Buddhist College, he would always read the publications of popular writers such as Hu Shih, Liang Qichao, and Lu Xun. His love for reading eventually advanced to writing and publishing. Besides publishing “My Corner”, Venerable Master Hsing Yun also attempted to submit articles to the Zhenjiang Newspaper Company. It was beyond his expectation that his published articles would receive overwhelming feedback, and he was highly praised by his teachers and publicly recognized by readers.
