Venerable Master Hsing Yun was born on July 22, 1927, in Jiangdu, Jiangsu Province, China. At the age of three, he displayed his giving nature by offering sweets to neighborhood children. Growing up in poverty, his diligent and compassionate nature were developed from his active assistance with onerous household chores such as clearing
sewage, cleaning thestove, and collecting cow dung to sell for coins. At
the age of twelve, he followed his mother to Nanjing in search of his
missing father. As the causes and conditions would have it, he would
renounce his worldly life ; stepping out of his home in Jiangdu, he stepped into the vast world of Buddhism and infinite opportunities.
