The combination of “ceramic” and “bamboo” well embodies the artist’s profound understanding of the characteristics of bamboo’s as a material and his forward-thinking approach toward integrating dissimilar materials.
The work itself is an elongated ceramic flower vase, with a streamlined window cleverly “carved out” at the top, into which intricate bamboo weaving is embedded. This design dismisses the sense of gravity associated with a single material and endows the work with a visual tension of interaction between solid and void.
