Feast of Nature

Taoxi Craft

Dimensions: L400 × W90 cm Materials: Ceramic, tin-silver alloy, linen, river stone Feast of Nature draws inspiration from the paths we walk every day—where stones, flowers, branches, ferns, and wild grasses quietly narrate the poetry of the natural world. We bring these subtle yet profound landscapes to the dining table, exploring how the textures and colors of nature can be transformed into vessels and textiles that hold both food and emotion—turning each meal into a ritual of connection with nature. This work features a 400 cm-long hand-crocheted tablecloth, envisioned as a fertile land—one that nurtures life and gathers joy. It is crafted using hemp thread from the Hmong community in Vietnam and silk from a local village, crocheted in a 2:1 ratio to achieve both weight and graceful drape. The piece is naturally dyed using hinoki tree bark, coffee grounds, and iron-vinegar solution, resulting in a rich, earthy tone reminiscent of living soil. In addition, we incorporate natural materials from the land—clay, tin, iron, and bamboo—shaped through processes such as firing, hammering, and polishing to create tableware and everyday vessels. Together, they compose a feast rooted in place and tradition. Through these works, we hope to invite people to rediscover the rhythms of nature in their daily lives, to dine with the seasons, to share with the land, and to rekindle a quiet yet profound connection with the earth.
