This statue was made by Pu in Japan in 1941 (Showa 16) for his wife of two years, Chen Zi-Wei. Soon after the statue was completed, he asked his father-in-law Chen Cheng-Po to bring it back to Taiwan to participate the “1st Tai-Yang Sculpture Exhibition.” Except for the face, details are simplified to show a subjective expression of the muscles, reflecting a strong early-modernist style.
