The Stitching Sisterhood
Fabric of Emotional Record
Dimensions specific to venue
Ever since they first met in 1998, the Stitching Sisterhood have created, paraded, exhibited, to become seed teachers for fabric play under the creative guidance of the Awakening Foundation, artist Mali Wu and numerous contemporary artists. “Playing with fabrics” may have been the portal through which they left the confines of home and began their lives. Beyond amusement, fabric play has activated their creativity, woven their shared experiences, and developed their relationships with the community outside the family.
In 2016, the Stitching Sisterhood collective were invited by Honggah Museum to hold the “Stitching Stories, Weaving Warmth” exhibition where members of the Stitching Sisterhood displayed their individual life experiences and stories through their varied creations. Six years hence, the Stitching Sisterhood have returned to Honggah Museum to hold the Fabric of Emotional Record creative workshop with the objective of engaging members of the public to share their life experiences to create displays for the exhibition. Fabric of Emotional Record may be described as a cross section sampling of those of us living in the contemporary era, as well as an exercise in methods of expression. Beyond words and text, there are many materials that can be a conduit for conveying ideas.
