This work was created during the period when Lii Jiin Shiow focused on the exploration of the self, often using group portraits to depict family, marriage, and the deep bonds of kinship. Lii once expressed in her essay her fondness for the color gray because of its obscurity and ambiguity. Subverting photographic clarity, this work features a blurred, gray-black toned family wedding portrait. It draws on the effects of negative imagery to reverse the relationship between light and dark, black and white, leaving silhouetted figures in a gray-black palette.
