During her short life of 50 years, Jo Hsieh produced over 1,600 self-portraits. From 1993 to 1999, she created one almost every day in a corner of her residence in the UK. Considered the first of these self-portraits, this print comprises four rectangular sections, with Hsieh’s image at the center surrounded by linear depictions of hair, objects, and nature. The contrast between gray-black and yellow presents varied visual elements and suggests the “dreamland” of the title.
