Timegram

Ng Sin Yi

- Time is an abstract yet concrete existence. People are used to measure the passage of time through clocks and watches, but the traces of time are actually everywhere, especially on the ordinary objects of life—paper. Whether it's documents, newspapers, packaging, or sticky notes, paper is a part of life. However, upon closer observation, these papers experience changes without being noticed. They may become wrinkled through use, fade and become worn due to the environment,or even expired and no longer usable. All these transformations carry the traces of time. This work collects and records the changing process of these papers over time, ranging from seconds to years, ultimately creating a unique "Book of Time." In this way, we can rediscover the unique relationship between paper and time, examine the essence of time and its impact on life, and realize that time is much more diverse and enriching much more than mere pointers and numbers. The relationship between human beings and time has a long and complicated history, and this work hopes to inspire the viewer to have a new understanding of time and to think about it, so that we can perceive this most basic yet mysterious existence from a new perspective.
