Application for the Founding of Commercial and Industrial Bank of Taiwan

The 1910 "Application for Approval of the Commercial and Industrial Bank of Taiwan, Joint-Stock Company" detailed the purpose and process of its establishment. The Commercial and Industrial Bank of Taiwan was strategically located in the resource-rich A-Gou Plain area, which is present-day Pingtung. This region was a major center for the production of sugar and rice. The establishment of the bank aimed to enhance the utilization and circulation of local funds. The document concluded with the signatures of the “Torishimariyaku Todori”and “Todori”, equivalent to the chairman and board members today. Taiwanese capitalists Su Yunying and Lan Gaochuan were among the signatories, illustrating that Taiwanese capitalists and elite gentry had begun participating in the creation and management of local private banks, making significant contributions to industrial development.
