1910 Head Office of Commercial and Industrial Bank of Taiwan

This Japanese "Wa-Yo Setchu" style building served as the headquarters of the Commercial and Industrial Bank of Taiwan. It was located in A-Gou District, A-Gou Prefecture, which is present-day Pingtung, and covered an area of approximately 231 square meters. The architectural features included Japanese black tiles, copper roofing, unpainted wooden construction, rainboards, raised flooring, flexible spaces, and engawa. In Taiwan's hot climate, the engawa space was designed wider than in Japan to prevent sunlight from entering the interior. Additionally, because Taiwan frequently experiences typhoons during the summer, rain shutters were installed on the outer edge of the engawa to protect the building from damage, decay, and termite infestations. After the merger of the Commercial and Industrial Bank of Taiwan with the Savings Bank of Taiwan in 1912, the headquarters moved to Taipei. The original location was then converted into the A-Gou branch.
