2007-2015|Bringing the Pieces of Memories Together to Create New Lives
From 2007, Heart Village began to conduct oral history interviews, architectural surveys and collect old photos as ways to piece together and refine the memories of the military dependents’ village. These efforts aimed to ensure that the history would not be forgotten. At the same time, they started to gather the public’s opinions and brainstorm ways to revitalize the space. In 2011, the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government, registered Heart Village as a cultural heritage in the “groups of buildings” category and recognized the value of its preservation.
Later, the Heart Village Council and other organizations participated in the Diaspora Unit of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam and gained attention back in Taiwan. Zhang, Zhong-Mou, the son of Zhang, Yu-Wen, then brought a fresh point of view and started to hold activities like winter camps and working holidays.
