Architectural and Cultural Preservation of Beitou Heart Village
Heart Village, nestled on the hillside of Beitou District, holds a special place in Taiwan's history as a military dependent's village. In its humble, unorganized houses lived a close-knit community of soldiers and their families. They retreated from China, all carrying their own stories, and settled in this hot spring town far away from home. As the only military dependent's village with a hot spring public bathhouse, Heart Village boasted a lifestyle of its own. Villagers carried out their duties at the nearby hospital during the day, and enjoyed hot springs after work. Today, Heart Village is one of the few remaining intact military dependent's villages in Taipei.
