In 1993, four elderly villagers were detained at the local police station for playing mahjong at night, which used to be common in the village. The same year, five residents passed away. Feeling the sense of urgency regarding the disappearing history of the village, Zhang, Yu-Wen, the chairman of the Heart Village Council, decided to engage in the preservation movement. He mobilized the residents, starting to preserve the history and culture of Heart Village. As the preservation of military dependents’ villagers gained more attention from both the society and the government, Heart Village, featuring its hot springs, also received more recognition and interests.
