The Long Struggle and Relocation of the National Army

1937|The Marco Polo Bridge Incident occurred, marking the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War. 1939|Germany invaded Poland, leading to the outbreak of World War II. 1941| The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor prompted the United States to enter the war. 1944|The Chinese Youth Army was established with over a hundred thousand young people joining. 1945|World War II ended and the Chinese Civil War between the Kuomintang-led government (Nationalist) and the Chinese Communist Party began. 1948|The battles of Liaohsi, Huaihai and Pingjin resulted in significant defeats for the Nationalist forces, with a loss of over a million soldiers. 1949|The Female Youth Corps was established and the government of the Republic of China retreated to Taiwan. 1950|National Women's League of the R.O.C. was founded. 1958|The August 23rd Artillery Battle in Kinmen, also known as the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis, erupted. 1987|Cross-strait family visits were allowed.
